The use of rich and biodiverse plant communities is a great contribution to improving the quality of life in cities and can be used on multiple fronts. Some examples include rainwater infiltration and stormwater retardant systems, with flood areas where vegetation not only maintains drainage capacity but also helps to capture and degrade pollutants, improve recreational and sports areas, reduce ambient temperature, and create suitable conditions for sustaining significant amounts of wildlife such as birds, mammals, and insects.
